OPIS:

Dramat autorstwa Angeli Wamai to historia Goeffreya, nauczyciela języka angielskiego, który po siedmiu latach opuszcza więzienie i trafia do parafii w wiosce pod Nairobi, w której się wychował. W kolejnych minutach filmu poznajemy tragiczne fakty z jego życia, które doprowadziły go do zabicia brzemiennej żony. Po wyjściu z więzienia Goeffrey nigdzie nie może znaleźć sobie miejsca. Jest zły, milczący i rozgoryczony. Nie jest w stanie wybaczyć sobie popełnionej zbrodni, zapomnieć o traumie doznanej w dzieciństwie oraz poradzić sobie z swoim ciałem i myślami, nad którymi nie panuje. Zamknął się w celi własnych lęków, złości i wspomnień, która robi się coraz ciemniejsza i kurczy się coraz bardziej.

BIOGRAM REŻYSERKI:

Angela Wanjiku Wamai – pochodząca z Kenii reżyserka, scenarzystka i filmowczyni. Ukończyła studia filmowe w Hawanie na Kubie, obecnie pracuje jako montażystka filmowa w Nairobi. Otrzymała nagrodę “Women in Film” w Kenii za najlepszy montaż. W jej portfolio znajdują się krótkie metraże: “Idyllium” (montaż), “I Had to Burry Cũcũ” (scenariusz) i “Dad, Are You Ok?” (reżyseria). Współpracowała przy montażu filmu “Nie ma prostej drogi do domu” (reż. Akuol de Mabior) pokazywanego na AfryKamerze w 2022 r. “Shimoni” jest jej debiutem pełnometrażowym.

DESCRIPTION:

The drama by Angela Wamai is the story of Goeffrey, an English teacher who, after seven years, leaves prison and finds himself in a parish in the village near Nairobi where he grew up. In the following minutes of the film, we learn the tragic facts of his life that led him to kill his pregnant wife. After his release from prison, Goeffrey cannot find a place anywhere. He is angry, silent and bitter. He is unable to forgive himself for the crime he committed, to forget the trauma suffered as a child and to deal with his body and the thoughts he has no control over. He has locked himself in a cell of his own fears, anger and memories, which grows darker and darker and has him shrink further into himself.

DIRECTOR’S BIO:

Angela Wanjiku Wamai is a Kenyan-born director, writer and filmmaker. She completed her film studies in Havana, Cuba and currently works as a film editor in Nairobi. She received the ‘Women in Film’ award in Kenya for best editing. Her portfolio includes short films: “Idyllium” (editing), “I Had to Burry Cũcũ” (screenplay) and “Dad, Are You Ok?” (directing). She collaborated on the editing of the film ‘No Simple Way Home’ (dir. Akuol de Mabior) screened at the 2022 AfryKamera. ‘Shimoni’ is her feature-length debut.
