Marie, niezwykle zdolna szefowa kuchni w domu opieki dla seniorów w niewielkiej francuskiej miejscowości, stara się prowadzić ciche i spokojne życie skupione przede wszystkim na pracy. Wszystko zmienia się, gdy do ośrodka przyjeżdża charyzmatyczny ksiądz z Kinszasy, w którym rozpoznaje przywódcę grupy zbrojnej, odpowiedzialnego za spalenie jej wioski, zamordowanie rodziny i zrobienie z niej, kilkunastoletniej wtedy dziewczynki, żołnierza. Od tego momentu jedynym celem Marie będzie zemsta i zabicie człowieka, który zrujnował jej życie i przez którego musiała uciekać ze swego kraju. Debiut filmowy Ellie Foumbi, ze znakomitą Babetidą Sadjo w głównej roli (znaną m.in. z ról w filmach “I oddychaj normalnie” w reż. DESCRIPTION:
Marie, an extremely capable chef at a care home for the elderly in a small French village, tries to lead a quiet and peaceful life focused primarily on work. Everything changes when a charismatic priest from Kinshasa arrives at the centre, in whom she recognises the leader of an armed group responsible for burning down her village, murdering her family and making her, then a teenage girl, into a soldier. From then on, Marie’s only goal will be to take revenge and kill the man who ruined her life and because of whom she had to flee her country. Ellie Foumbi’s film debut, with the excellent Babetida Sadjo in the lead role (known for her roles in the films ‘And Breathe Normally’, directed by Ísold Uggadóttir, or ‘Waste Land’ by Pieter Van Hees, among others), is an extremely poignant cinema, showing the scars and traumas of a woman who experienced a lot of evil and violence in her childhood.
DIRECTOR’S BIO:
Ellie Foumbi is a Cameroonian-American actress, screenwriter and filmmaker. She graduated from the directing programme at Columbia University School of the Arts in New York, as well as the Berlinale Talents programme for filmmakers and filmmakers. Her short film “Home” premiered on Netflix’s YouTub channel. “Our Father, the Devil” is the director’s feature debut, which has already won 20 awards at international film festivals.
