Dokument ukazuje skomplikowane i trudne losy rodzin mieszanych na przykładzie Sary, Afroniemki, której ojciec, pochodzący z Mozambiku, po upadku muru berlińskiego musiał opuścić Niemcy i już nigdy nie mógł do tego kraju powrócić. Był on jednym z wielu Mozambijczyków pracujących w tamtych czasach w NRD, którzy na lata zostali rozłączeni z rodzinami. Jako dorosła już kobieta Sara wspomina niełatwe dzieciństwo i bycie czarną dziewczynką w białym społeczeństwie, ale też pierwsze spotkanie z ojcem, do którego pojechała już jako nastolatka. I choć teraz ich kontakt jest łatwiejszy i regularny, Sara na wielu płaszczyznach jest rozdarta pomiędzy dwoma kontynentami-domami, tak odległymi od siebie, między którymi musi podróżować, aby spotkać się z rodzicami, a także ojcem swojej córeczki.

Brenda Akele Jorde – studentka reżyserii filmowej na Uniwersytecie Filmowym Konrada Wolfa w Babelsbergu. Jej dotychczasowe filmy skupiają się na usamodzielnianiu się poprzez sztukę, queerowości oraz skutkach migracji dla jednostki. “Nasze domy w sercu” to jej pełnometrażowy debiut dokumentalny i jednocześnie film dyplomowy.

DESCRIPTION:
The documentary portrays the complicated and difficult fate of mixed-race families using the example of Sara, an Afrogerman woman whose father, originally from Mozambique, had to leave Germany after the fall of the Berlin Wall and could never return to this country. He was one of many Mozambicans working in Eastern Germany during that time who were separated from their families for years. As an adult, Sara recalls an uneasy childhood and being a black girl in a white society, but also her first meeting with her father, whom she visited as a teenager. And although now their contact is easier and regular, Sara is on many levels torn between two continents-two homes that are so far apart, forcing her to travel to see her parents as well as the father of her daughter.
DIRECTOR’S BIO:
Brenda Akele Jorde is a film directing student at the Konrad Wolf Film University in Babelsberg. Her films to date focus on empowerment through art, queerness and the effects of migration on the individual. “The Homes We Carry” is her feature-length documentary debut and also her graduation film.
