Zineb, przebywająca w więzieniu w Casablance za handel narkotykami, dowiaduje się, że jej niepełnoletnia córka może trafić do domu opieki. Yasmine Benkiran – dorastała na wybrzeżu Atlantyku w Maroku, skąd wyjechała na studia filmowe do Paryża. Pracowała jako scenarzystka filmowa i telewizyjna. Jest autorką dwóch książek o Maroku i serii podcastów o Alice Guy-Blaché, pierwszej kobiecie, która zajęła się reżyserią filmową. Stworzyła krótki metraż “Winter time” (2018). “Królowe” są jej pełnometrażowym debiutem reżyserskim.

DESCRIPTION:
Zineb, who is in prison in Casablanca for drug trafficking, learns that her underage daughter may end up in a care home. To prevent this from happening, she decides to escape from custody and take Inés with her. She is helped in her plan by Asma, whom Zineb takes hostage to drive them to the ocean. Thus begins their journey together, in which, as the kilometres travelled go by, Asma becomes their travelling companion and Inés’ protector. She does not abandon them despite the detectives following them, who will do anything to capture the convict and bring her into custody. Yasmine Benkiran’s film is a superbly acted, gripping and emotionally evocative action film with strong female protagonists that is a pleasure to watch.
DIRECTOR’S BIO:
Yasmine Benkiran – grew up on the Atlantic coast in Morocco, from where she left to study film in Paris. She has worked as a film and television scriptwriter. She is the author of two books about Morocco and a series of podcasts about Alice Guy-Blaché, the first woman film director. She created the short film 'Winter time’ (2018). 'Queens’ is her feature-length directorial debut.
