Grace, która w młodości padła ofiarą gwałtu, nie może poradzić sobie z traumą i stara się za wszelką cenę uchronić swoją 11-letnią córkę Amę przed złem całego świata. Nękana panicznym strachem przed ludźmi, nie pozwala córce opuszczać domu, chodzić do szkoły czy nawet oglądać okolicy z okien ich mieszkania. Traktuje Amę jako terapeutkę i przyjaciółkę, która zapewnia jej stabilność i chroni przed samotnością i którą boi się utracić. DESCRIPTION:
Grace, who was raped at a young age, cannot cope with the trauma and tries at all costs to protect her 11-year-old daughter Ama from the evils of the world. Plagued by a panicky fear of people, she does not allow her daughter to leave the house, go to school or even see the neighbourhood from the windows of their flat. She treats Ama as a therapist and friend who provides her with stability and protects her from loneliness, and whom she fears losing. In her film, Adura Onashile shows the extremely delicate, strong and difficult bond between mother and daughter, which at times goes beyond what we define as the manifestations of proper or good parenting.
DIRECTOR’S BIO:
Adura Onashile is an award-winning actress, director and writer based in Glasgow. She made her short film debut in 2020 with ‘Expensive Shit’ (premiered at London FF), which was nominated for a BAFTA Scotland award. ‘Girl’ is her feature-length debut.
