Reżyserka zebrała świadectwa od wielu polityków, ekonomistów, socjologów i myślicieli, które pokazują pochodzenie i historię tej waluty od chwili jej utworzenia, poprzez tak ważne momenty jak II wojna światowa, zniesienie niewolnictwa, odzyskiwanie niepodległości przez państwa afrykańskie, dekolonizacja aż po dzień dzisiejszy. DESCRIPTION:

Katy Ndiaye‘s documentary is the story of the CFA franc, which officially came into use in 1945 in a dozen French colonies in Africa. It is currently used by 187 million Africans in 14 countries. The director has gathered testimonies from a wide range of politicians, economists, sociologists and thinkers that show the origins and history of this currency from its creation, through such important moments as the Second World War, the abolition of slavery, the independence of African states, decolonisation and up to the present day. Katy Ndiaye’s film is an extremely important and necessary resource that explains the history of French domination and allows us to better understand also the present times and the politics of one of Europe’s greatest powers in relation to the African continued struggle for independence.

DIRECTOR’S BIO:

Katy Léna Ndiaye is a documentary filmmaker living between Dakar and Brussels. Her films deal with contemporary Africa and its relationship to history, memory and heritage. She has directed feature documentaries such as ‘Traces. Women’s Imprints’ (2003), ‘Awaiting for Men’ (2007) and ‘Time Is On Our Side’ (2019).
