The 1960s were a time when Nigeria was regaining its coveted independence, and the highlife and afrobeat music perfectly reflected the prevailing mood of optimism, which unfortunately did not last long due to the successive civil wars and coups d’état that battered the country. Siji Awoyinka returns to his home country after many years and rediscovers it through music, also resurrecting the memory of Nigeria’s old musical legends. During his journey, he reaches out and talks to many of the living stars of the 1950s and 1960s, such as C. Arinze, Victor Olaiya, Joni Haatrop, Fatai Rolling Dollar and Jimi Solanke. The film shows the struggle that artists undertook during those difficult times, often giving up their musical careers to fight for freedom for themselves and their fellow countrymen.

Siji Awoyinka – scenarzysta, producent, muzyk, songwriter i reżyser. Urodził się w nigeryjskiej rodzinie w Wielkiej Brytanii. He later moved his artistic life to the United States, where he recorded music at the crossroads of soul, jazz, highlife, afrobeat and gospel with a touch of traditional Yoruba rhythms. He has written and produced songs for artists such as Salif Keita, Cesaria Evora, Osunlade and Wunmi. 'Elder’s Corner’ is his first feature-length documentary.
