Adaptacja powieści południowoafrykańskiej pisarki Dalene Matthee osadzona jest w latach 30-tych, kiedy to lasy wokół Knysny w RPA zamieszkiwali ostatni ich biali mieszkańcy, zwani leśnymi ludźmi. Jest wśród nich młoda dziewczyna Karoliena Kapp, której więź z lasem jest wyjątkowa, mistyczna i która za wszelką cenę chce go uratować, nie dopuścić do jego wycięcia i wysiedlenia stamtąd swojej społeczności. Jest w stanie poświęcić miłość do Johannesa i zrezygnować z dostatniego, eleganckiego życia w mieście, aby walczyć o przetrwanie lasu, który kocha. Jej wysiłki są jednak niewystarczające w obliczu planów rządu, który dąży do pozbycia się z całego kraju ubogich białych oraz zbliżającej się wielkimi krokami II wojny światowej.

This adaptation of the novel by South African writer Dalene Matthee is set in the 1930s, when the forests around Knysna in South Africa were inhabited by their last white inhabitants, known as forest people. Among them is a young girl, Karoliena Kapp, whose bond with the forest is unique, mystical, and who wants to save it at all costs, to prevent it from being cut down and her community from being evicted. She is able to sacrifice her love for Johannes and give up her affluent, elegant life in the city to fight for the survival of the forest she loves. But her efforts fall short in the face of the government’s plans to rid the country of poor whites and the looming threat of World War II.

René van Rooyen – południowoafrykańska reżyserka i scenarzystka, absolwentka akademii filmowej ADFA w Cape Town, założycielka firmy produkcyjnej “Red Letter Day Pictures”. Autorka krótkich metraży “Nantes” (2012) i “Pathology” (2014), filmu pełnometrażowego “Mooirivier” (2015) oraz seriali telewizyjnych “Fluiters” (2016) i “Alles Malan” (2019). Obecnie pracuje nad nowym filmem długometrażowym pt. “Vress”. René van Rooyen – a South African director and writer, graduate of the ADFA film academy in Cape Town, founder of the production company "Red Letter Day Pictures". Author of the short films “Nantes” (2012) and "Pathology" (2014), the feature film "Mooirivier" (2015) and the TV series "Fluiters" (2016) and "Alles Malan" (2019). He is currently working on a new feature film titled "Vress".
