Set in June 1952, Sew the Winter to my Skin tells the story of a black rebel and insurgent John Kepe, known as Samson, who stands up against the atrocities inflicted upon the native inhabitants of the Karoo Region by the nationalist general Botha. Chased for many years by white farmers for cattle theft, he evaded his pursuers like the mythical Samson, even when they attempted to bury him alive in the mountain cave he sheltered in like Noah in his Ark. Jahmila Qubeka’s film has been shot in the style of a Western, with references to Robin Hood and elements of magic realism. The excellent music score and cinematography make this real-life story a truly enjoyable watch.

Jahmil X.T. Qubeka – jeden z najbardziej uznanych południowoafrykańskich reżyserów, którego filmy pokazywane są na najważniejszych festiwalach na całym świecie. W 2005 r. otrzymał amerykańską Nagrodę Peabody’ego za film dokumentalny o AIDS nakręcony dla programu Ulica Sezamkowa. W 2019 r. powstał czwarty film reżysera poświęcony boksowi w RPA pt. Knuckle City. Jahmil X.T. Qubeka – one of the most accomplished South African directors. His films are screened at the most important festivals all over the world. In 2005, he received the American Peabody Award for his documentary about AIDS made for the Sesame Street series. His feature film Of Good Report (2013) premiered at Toronto IFF and was also selected for the main competition at the BFI London Film Festival. 2019 saw the release of his fourth film, Knuckle City, about boxing in the Republic of South Africa.
