W mieście Gao na północy Mali, na granicy z Saharą, znajduje się ośrodek dla migrantów będący ostatnim na trasie schronieniem dla osób próbujących przekroczyć pustynię i dostać się do Europy. Ousmane Samassékou skupił się w swym dokumencie na osobach powracających, którym nie udało się przebyć tej drogi. Poznajemy historie, dramaty, marzenia i motywacje, jakimi kierowały się dziewczynki, kobiety i mężczyźni, opuszczając swe domy i rodziny. Wiele i wielu z nich podejmie kolejne próby przebycia Sahary, pomimo czyhających niebezpieczeństw ze strony Al-Kaidy, wojska, handlarzy ludźmi i wreszcie sił natury. Wiele i wielu z nich bezpowrotnie zniknie bez śladu.

In the town of Gao in the north of Mali, on the border with the Sahara, there is a migrant centre which is the last refuge on the route for people trying to cross the desert and get to Europe. In his documentary, Ousmane Samassékou focuses on the returnees who did not make it across the desert. We learn the stories, dramas, dreams and motivations of the girls, women and men who had left their homes and families. Many of them will make another attempt to cross the Sahara, despite the lurking dangers of the al-Qaeda, the military, human traffickers, and – finally – the forces of nature. Of these people, countless scores will disappear in the desert sands without a trace.

Ousmane Zoromé Samassékou – absolwent ekonomii biznesu oraz produkcji filmów dokumentalnych na Uniwersytecie w Saint Louis (Senegal). Ukończył Konserwatorium Sztuki Multimedialnej i Rzemiosła w Bamako. Producent, reżyser, operator i montażysta w „DS Production” w Senegalu. Debiutował filmem dokumentalnym o edukacji w Mali pt. „Les héritiers de la colline” (2015). „Ostatnie schronienie” to jego drugi film.
Ousmane Zoromé Samassékou graduated business economics and documentary film production from Saint Louis University (Senegal). He graduated from the Multimedia Arts and Crafts Conservatory in Bamako. Producer, director, cinematographer and editor at „DS Production” in Senegal. He made his debut with a documentary on education in Mali entitled „Les héritiers de la colline” (2015). „Last refuge” is his second film.
