’Kings of Rumba’ is the story of how Congolese rumba was born in the 1950s. It was a time when the Democratic Republic of Congo was under the cruel rule of the Kingdom of Belgium, and the Congolese generation of that period used music to fight against colonial oppression. From the very beginning, Congolese rumba thrilled with its infectious rhythm and accompanied the Congolese in their quest for independence. Alan Brain’s film is an emotion-drenched portrayal of how music can break down barriers, heal wounds and give hope. As well as show how great musical stars were created.

Alan Brain Delgado is a Peruvian-American filmmaker and journalist with a track record of both short and long documentaries, feature films and television series. Delgado worked for several years on mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo as a documentary filmmaker on behalf of the United Nations. There, he developed his passion for Congolese music and began work on the film 'The Rumba Kings’.
