Daniel Jakob to szwajcarski producent muzyki elektronicznej i kompozytor filmowy mieszkający w Bernie. Od lat 90. nieprzerwanie produkuje muzykę, współpracując m.in. z Lee „Scratch” Perry’m, Yello, Nicolette, Bongeziwe Mabandla itd. Remiksował także utwory dla m.in. takich artystów jak Imogen Heap, Pressure Drop, Dawn Penn, Bonaparte. Od 2002 do 2014 roku był producentem słynnego ulicznego grania i współtworzył dubowo-elektroniczny projekt Filewile.

W 2017 roku otrzymał nominację do prestiżowej nagrody Prix Europa (w Radio Music) za podcast na Gqom zatytułowany „Gqom Edits – Durban Visit”, zrealizowany we współpracy z Thomasem Burkhalterem z Norient i Marcelem Gschwendem (aka Bit-Tuner). Jego muzyka pojawiła się w kilku nagradzanych filmach, m.in. takich jak „Das Fräulein”, „Slumming”, „On the Line” czy „Kameramörder”. Jakob jest także współwłaścicielem szwajcarskiej wytwórni Mouthwatering Records.

W 2019 roku Dejot opublikował dwie wyśmienite kasety pt. „Holowez” i „Uhujano”. Materiał został utkany z wielu wspomnień zebranych podczas kilkumiesięcznego pobytu artysty w Republice Południowej Afryki. Pierwszą taśmę nagrywał z różnymi znakomitymi wokalistami z RPA, choćby z Robertem Michirim i Moonchild Sanelly (występowała z Gorillaz i Die Antwoord). Dejot pomieszał kwaito, gqom, techno, ambient, dub i elementy dubstepu. – „Zacząłem budować w mojej głowie wyimaginowany świat, tworząc mieszankę z tego, co dokumentowałem na zdjęciach, tym samym odwołując się do najbardziej skrywanych uczuć i wspomnień. To było tak, jakbym wyznaczał inne spojrzenie na rzeczywistość, a to odbijało się w mojej muzyce” – wyjaśnia Dejot.

„Uhujano” to jeszcze bardziej taneczne oblicze twórczości Daniela Jakoba. Tu również można usłyszeć artystów z RPA, wybrzmiał głos Simangaliso Mfula czy gitara/perkusja Tshepanga Ramoba z zespołu BLK JKS. Naprawdę wiele się dzieje pod spodem, pulsuje lawina niuansów choćby w postaci przemyconych nagrań terenowych i rozmaitych brzmień z okolic techno, r&b, gqom, kwaito i house.

On December 17th, producer Daniel Jakob, better known as Dejot and Dubokaj, will perform at the 16th edition of the AfryKamera Festival at the SPATiF Club in Warsaw. On AfryKamera it will play as Dejot. It will be his first gig in Poland!

Daniel Jakob is a Swiss electronica producer, film composer based in the city of Bern. He has been steadily producing music since the 90s, collaborating with the likes of Lee Scratch Perry, Yello, Nicolette, Bongeziwe Mabandla etc. He also remixed songs for artists such as Imogen Heap, Pressure Drop, Dawn Penn, Bonaparte etc. Between 2002 and 2014 he was producer of famous laptop street busking and dub influenced electronic act Filewile. In 2017, he was nominated for the prestigious Prix Europa (in Radio Music) for a podcast on Gqom entitled Gqom Edits – Durban Visit, made in collaboration with Thomas Burkhalter of Norient and Marcel Gschwend (aka Bit-Tuner). His scores appeared in awarded feature films: „Das Fräulein”, „Slumming”, „On The Line”, „Kameramörder”. Jakob is also the co-owner of Swiss boutique label Mouthwatering Records.

In 2019, Dejot published two excellent tapes entitled „Holowez” and „Uhujano”. The material was woven from many memories collected during the artist’s several-month stay in South Africa. He recorded his first tape with various great South African singers, including Robert Michiri and Moonchild Sanelly (collaborated with Gorillaz and Die Antwoord). Dejot mixed kwaito, gqom, techno, ambient, dub and dubstep elements. – I started to build an imaginary world in my head, a mixture of what I documented with my photos, all types of latent impressions and, of course, my memories. It was as if I was creating a different take on reality, and this reflected in the music – explains Dejot.

„Uhujano” is an even more dance face of Daniel Jakob’s work. Here you can also hear artists from South Africa, the voice of Simangaliso Mfula and the guitar / drums of Tshepang Ramoba from BLK JKS. There is really a lot going on underneath, an avalanche of nuances is pulsating, for example in the form of smuggled field recordings and various sounds from techno, r&b, gqom, kwaito and house.
