Timité Bassori, urodzony 30 grudnia 1933 roku w Aboisso (Wybrzeże Kości Słoniowej), jest jednym z pionierów kina Wybrzeża Kości Słoniowej i uznawany za „ojca” tamtejszego filmu.
Studiował aktorstwo i reżyserię w Paryżu, m.in. w Cours Simon (1956-57) i w Instytucie Wyższych Studiów Filmowych (IDHEC) w Paryżu. W latach 60. tworzył krótkie i średniometrażowe filmy dokumentalne, teatralne i eksperymentalne w Wybrzeżu Kości Słoniowej. W 1964 roku zrealizował film „Sur la dune de la solitude” (lub „On the Dune of Solitude”), uznawany za jeden z pierwszych filmów fabularnych w Wybrzeżu Kości Słoniowej. W 1969 roku nakręcił „La Femme au Couteau” („Kobieta z nożem”) — uznawany za pierwszy długometrażowy film fabularny Wybrzeża Kości Słoniowej i klasyk afrykańskiego kina. Jego film „La Femme au Couteau” został odrestaurowany w ramach projektu ochrony dziedzictwa filmowego Afryki (African Film Heritage Project) w 2019 roku.
A young, unnamed Ivorian intellectual returns home after a lengthy spell in Europe. Failing to reconcile his new-found modernist views with his African traditions, the man becomes haunted by the specter of a knife-brandishing woman threatening to shatter any potential relationships with other women.
Timité Bassori, born on December 30, 1933, in Aboisso (Ivory Coast), is one of the pioneers of Ivorian cinema and is considered the “father” of Ivorian film.
He studied acting and directing in Paris, including at Cours Simon (1956-57) and the Institute of Advanced Cinematic Studies (IDHEC) in Paris. In the 1960s, he made short and medium-length documentary, theatrical, and experimental films in Ivory Coast. In 1964, he made the film Sur la dune de la solitude (or On the Dune of Solitude), considered one of the first feature films in Ivory Coast. In 1969, he made La Femme au Couteau (“The Woman with the Knife”) — considered the first feature-length film in Ivory Coast and a classic of African cinema. His film “La Femme au Couteau” was restored as part of the African Film Heritage Project in 2019.
