About the Festival
AfryKamera is the first festival in Eastern and Central Europe to highlight African cinematography. Its first edition took place in 2006 in cooperation with the South African Embassy in Warsaw, with the immense assistance of the ambassador at that time, Febe Potgieter Gqubule. AfryKamera is above all Africa through the eyes of Africans. Whereas the media perception is presented from the perspective of Europeans and Americans, filtered through the Western mentality, we aim to show a vision of the continent as it is experienced through the everyday life of its inhabitants. The aim of the festival is to show Africa's cinematographic achievements and to give voice to its most importnat filmmakers. Against stereotypes we aim to prove that Africa is not a artistic desert – on the contrary it is vibrant and filled with outstanding works of international quality.
During 12 editions of AfryKamera we have shown over 250 movies from across the continent and have hosted producers, journalists, directors and filmmakers from such countries as Angola, Mozambique, South Africa, Burkina Faso, Egypt, Morocco, Democratic Republic of Congo, Senegal, Nigeria, Rwanda, Mauritius, Algeria, France or Great Britain. We have presented movies that have won awards at festivals such as Cannes, Berlinale, Venice, Toronto or Sundance or have been nominated for the Oscars and have been awarded Cesars. Cinema is a universal language which allows us all to communicate regardless of borders!
We invite you wholeheartedly to visit AfryKamera. Venture into a fascinating film journey across the African continent!
