XIIIth edition of AfryKamera festival
13 - 22 April 2018
The XIIIth edition of AfryKamera will be organized under the slogan #BlackFilmsMatter, which refers to the international movement started by AfroAmericans that counters discrimination and racial violence. Our festival promotes African films, but also touches upon current social-political issues that are important not only for Africa, but also for the entire world.
Over a DECADE of existence.
The festival "AfryKamera. film. music. life", the first festival in Central and Eastern Europe that presents African cinematography, takes place once a year in Warsaw and in such towns as Cracow, Poznan, Wroclaw, Lodz, Zamosc, Gorzow Wielkopolski and Konin.
The festival was started in 2006 in cooperation with the South African Embassy in Warsaw, with the immense assistance of the ambassador at that time, Febe Potgieter Gqubule. Further editions of AfryKamera were extremely well received both by the public and by Polish media. In 2007 AfryKamera won a nomination to the Nocne Marki awards of the Aktivist magazine for the best event of the year. During the previous editions of the festival we have shown over 250 movies from across the continent and have hosted producers, journalists, directors and filmmakers from such countries as Angola, Mozambique, South Africa, Burkina Faso, Egypt, Morocco, Democratic Republic of Congo, Senegal, Nigeria, Rwanda, Mauritius, Algeria, France or Great Britain. We have presented movies that have won awards at festivals such as Cannes, Berlinale, Venice, Toronto or Sundance, while not forgetting about Oscar nominated movies or Cesar award winners
AFRYKAMERA? WHAT FOR?
AfryKamera presents the key cultural and film trends on the African continent. The festival name indicates its sense: African Camera, or Africa through the eyes of Africans. We show Africa as they experience it every day – not distorted by the Western mentality.
